What does your Personal Brand say about you? Do you project the image you want to imprint people with?
Branding is so powerful not only for professional purposes, but in regard to every aspect of life. The impression we give people could lead to a multitude of relationships whether it be a friendship, an intimate relationship, a professional opportunity, or a business possibility.
Step One: Define YOU
The first step in creating a Personal Brand that captivates others is by knowing who you are and what you want to project.
If someone had to describe you in 5 words or less, what would those words be? Remember, be confident and embrace who you are. There is only one you!
Equally as important as knowing yourself and the image you want to project is understanding how you are currently being perceived. Is everything in alignment? Do people perceive you the way you want them to?
Not long ago, I was fortunate to have someone volunteer their perception of me and I was blown away by what I heard. It was not me at all. But, it was a gift for me to check in with myself and ask why I was being perceived that way.
Step Two: Know your WHY
When you know your WHY, you will attract people who share the same beliefs as you. Whether it is in your personal or professional life, you want to surround yourself with people who embody your values. This allows you to be deliberate in your message. And as a result, you will find those that will be loyal to your brand.
“In anything we do, in any endeavor, it’s not what you do, it’s WHY you do it.” – Howard Schultz, former CEO of Starbuck’s
Step Three: What’s your differentiator?
The third step is to set yourself apart. Being authentic and honoring yourself will brand you uniquely as there is only one you in the world.
Too often, we try to conform ourselves to what is acceptable but that is not living our truth. As a speaker, I am naturally drawn to hearing other peoples’ style. There are many speakers who have captivated me and caused me to question changing my style. But at the end of the day, I always tell myself that is not me. I am who I am, and there will be those who resonate with my message as well as those who do not.
That is okay.
Don’t get me wrong, I do believe we can identify with a brand that inspires us! For me, Jennifer Lopez is one of the most fascinating and successful brands out there. She has a net worth of $400 million dollars to support that. She deliberately attempts to be daring and different.
From time to time, ask yourself…
“Do I need to redefine my brand to reflect a new version of myself?”
“Do I need to refresh my brand and step out of comfort to create a new image?”
Begin the evolution of building a captivating and resonating personal brand.
